People who were injured amid student-led mass uprising undergoing treatment at National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in front of NITOR in Shyamoli, Dhaka for more than four hours on Wednesday alleging that the health adviser did not listen to their demands when she visited NITOR on the day.
They blocked the road at around 2:00pm alleging that the health and family welfare adviser to the interim government Nurjahan Begum, who visited NITOR at around 11:30am to meet the injured in the July-August student-led mass uprising, left the hospital without meeting all injured of the movement.
People undergoing treatment National Institute of Opthalmology & Hospital joined the protesters and announced that they would not leave the road until the health advisor met them and heard their demands.
Md Shahidul Islam, a patient who was shot in the left hand in Mirpur-13 on July 19, alleged, ‘When we tried to stop the health advisor’s car, it attempted to run over us, injuring three people, including me.’
‘She only met a few patients in Ward A. We wanted to share our demands with her, but she left the hospital without hearing us, so we blocked the road,’ he added.
‘The protesters blocked the road at around 2:00pm to press home various demands, including ensuring proper treatment,’ said additional commissioner of DMP Tejgaon zone Ziaul Haq.
‘We are trying to convince them to clear the road,’ he added.
More than 50 people were seen protesting blocking the road around 6:00pm.
